What is Wing Chun?
Wing Chun is a practical martial art and fighting system that uses physics and scientific principles in order to effectively fight larger and stronger opponents. Wing Chun is all about core fighting skills and practical self-defense. While not a sports oriented martial art such as boxing, MMA or tae kwon do, Wing Chun practice improves one’s core strength, conditioning, balance and coordination.
Wing Chun is a very unique style. It is an internal kung fu style which means the source of power is internal energy (or chi) rather than muscular strength. Typically, soft or internal styles (like Tai Chi or Bau Gua) have great health and wellness benefits but are hard to apply in a practical self defense situation. Likewise, hard styles are good for self defense but take a toll on your body, particularly as you age. Wing Chun is one of the few martial arts that harmonize both approaches - being soft and fluid until the precise moment of contact.
Bruce Lee, the famous movie star and martial artist learned Wing Chun from Ip Man, the man responsible for its spread and popularity around the world.
